Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a library card?
Library cards are free to residents of Monroe County. Identification with your name and current address is required.
How long may I keep an item?
Books are checked out for 2 weeks. Magazines and audios are checked out for 1 week. These items may be renewed unless they are on a reserve list. Videos are checked out for 2 days. Patrons MUST be 18 years of age to check out videos.
How many items may I check out?
Adults and children may check out as many books as they can read in two weeks. New card holders may check out 2 books the first time, but when those are returned they may check out as many as they can read in two weeks. Videos are checked out two per household for two days. Fines of $1.00 per day per video accrue if the video is overdue. Fines of .05 per day per item accrue if other materials are overdue.
Where do I return library materials?
Items should be returned to the circulation desk during business hours. A book drop is available by the side entrance for materials that must be returned when the library is closed.
May I reserve an item if it is checked out?
Yes. We will notify you when the item is returned and will hold it for three days.
Books which have been published for more than six months as well as specific articles may be requested from other libraries. Magazines, videos, audios and genealogy are not normally available through Inter-Library loan.
No. Reference books do not circulate. However, if reference materials must be copied, we will make five copies free of charge. Additional copies are .25 per page.
Yes, there are computers available for word processing, reference, children's games, and Internet access.
Regularly scheduled programs for children are on Wednesday mornings at 9:00 a.m., for children ages 2-5 years. Family Night Out programs, held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm, are for all ages. Summer Reading Program is held for children ages 2- 12 years. The annual Halloween party is also open to all ages.
